The Great VTuber "Support" Heist

Thumbnail of two characters, one is in panic representing the hardworking VTuber and another one had a smug face with X emblazoned on their face and written "Supporter" on them. A retweet and twitter icon in the centre, and the title "The Great VT 'Support' Heist" at the top and bottom of the thumbnail. The background is neon pink and blue with a circle at the centre and a fade off transparent figure of a notable "VTuber Supporter".

Ahoy, my fellow VTuber aficionados! It's your friendly neighbourhood Goro again, hot off the keyboard with yet another delightful slice of the digital pie that is our beloved VTuber world. Today, we're unpacking the enigma of the VTuber Supporters: those pesky folks who've chosen to hop onto the VTuber bandwagon not by creating content or engaging with our virtual idols but by retweeting, promoting, and... drumroll... building a persona out of doing just that. Yes, it sounds as fun as watching paint dry.

Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not against supporting. On the contrary, the more, the merrier, right? But here's the kicker. Some of these 'supporters' take 'supporting' to a whole new level. They retweet, they promote, they build brand-like identities akin to the actual VTubers... and do so without even engaging with the content they're supposedly championing. Imagine going to a concert and the loudest cheerleader is the one who doesn't even know the lyrics!

And what's more, they're not above spinning tales taller than the Petronas Towers. Misinformation? Check. Misrepresentation? Double-check. All while profiting from the VTubers' blood, sweat, and digital tears. In their quest for clout and fame, they've turned into a full-blown shadow puppet show. But, is all the bad press justified? Are they really the internet's equivalent of leeches?

It's easy to point fingers and call them clout chasers. But hold onto your keyboards folks, we've all got a part to play in this grand drama. Sure, the Supporters are riding the coattails of our favourite VTubers, but who's giving them the boost? That's right, folks. We are. The fans. The audience. The actual supporters.

So, before we get all up in arms about the state of our dear VTuber community, let's take a moment to reflect. Are we doing our part in championing our favourite VTubers? Or are we just sitting back and letting the retweet button do all the work? And let me tell you, that button might be convenient, but it's not going to write thoughtful comments, share insights, or build a real community.

Let's stop the cycle of clout-chasing, the unnecessary drama, the misinformation. Let's take back the narrative, bring the spotlight back to where it belongs - on our amazing VTubers who pour their hearts out for us every single day. Let's be more than just passive spectators.

After all, aren't we the first line of true supporters of the VTubers we love? If we want to show our love, we need to put in the work - watch their streams, chat with them, share their content, make clips, heck, even write your own articles and reviews about your favourite VTubers. Trust me, it's worth it. They deserve it.

I write this piece because I've seen the rise and fall of these so-called 'supporters', and each departure leaves a bitter taste. It's a game of fame and fortune, a game that undermines the hard work and dedication of our VTubers. But, let's not forget, it's a game that we're all part of. We're not just fans; we're the backbone of this community. Let's show our VTubers the love they deserve - one tweet, one clip, one review at a time. And remember folks, retweeting isn't supporting; it's just the first step.

This is Goro, signing off, but remember - the truest form of support is not in retweets, but in engagement. Till next time!
